General Eligibility for Canada Express Entry

To qualify for Express Entry, you must meet the basic eligibility requirements in several key areas:

1. Language Proficiency

You must prove your ability to communicate in English or French.
Take an approved language test like IELTS, CELPIP, or TEF.
You need a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score, which varies depending on the program (usually CLB 5 to 7).

2. Work Experience

You must have at least 1 year of continuous skilled work experience in the past 10 years.
Your job must fall under TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 as defined by Canada’s National Occupation Classification (NOC).

3. Education

You must have completed at least a high school diploma.
If you studied outside Canada, get an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) to show your education is equal to a Canadian standard.

4. Age

There’s no official age limit, but you score maximum points between ages 20 to 29.
Older applicants may still qualify but receive fewer points.

5. Proof of Funds

You need to show you have enough money to support yourself and your family (unless you have a valid job offer or are applying under the Canadian Experience Class).

6. Admissibility

You must be legally admissible to Canada (no serious criminal record or major health issues).

What Is the CRS Score in Canada’s Express Entry System?

The CRS is a points based system employed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to assess and rank candidates in the Express Entry pool. Candidates are awarded points based on various factors, with a maximum of 1,200 points available. The CRS score is calculated out of a total of 1200 points, segmented into four primary categories like Core / Human Capital Factors, Spouse or Common-Law Partner Factors, Skill Transferability Factors, and other Additional Points

As of March 25, 2025, IRCC has removed points previously awarded for job offers from the CRS calculation. This change affects all current and future Express Entry candidates. However, if having a valid job offer is part of your eligibility criteria for certain programs, this requirement remains unchanged.
